The Gospel of Thomas is the story of a Peace Corps volunteer whose experience in Senegal is crucial to what he does when he becomes President of the United States. Turmoil in the Catholic Church threatens religious wars in the world. The president is forced to get involved, and he remembers a charismatic Congolese bishop he met in Senegal and decides that this bishop should be pope. The Chinese get an inkling of the president’s intention. The bishop is a strident censor of Chinese policies in Africa. They too then are forced to get involved.
